Improvement of heat quality in industrial furnaces
Heat radiation has a significant effect on heating speed in industrial furnaces. E.g. with aluminium alloys
1 micrometer change in wavelength causes 55 % change in absorption rate. Taking advantage of these
properties allows increase in heating rates with the same or lower energy consumption without
sacrificing equal temperature distribution within the products as usually is the case when heating rate is
increased. Results have been achieved using combustion based heating. The aim of this project is to
develop electrically heated furnace that enables taking advantage of radiation properties.
